Meet the Characters

The Founders

Natasha

Natasha

Visionary & Co-founder

A former corporate designer who traded city concrete for a wild two-acre forest. Beautifully absent-minded, she loves painting signage and scattering wildflower seeds to blur the lines between the wild and the built environment.

Alyosha

Alyosha

Pragmatic Engineer

A grounded former corporate architect who traded sterile corporate life for heavy timber, building wagons and animal enclosures from scratch. He carries a deep understanding of energy, structure, and human healing.

Nadia

Nadia

Communications Director

Natasha's sharp, stylish younger sister. Brilliant at marketing and psychology, she designed the highly successful campaign that saved the camp and initiated the infamous lavender bubble bath rebellion.

Parents of the Twins and Family Members

Beatrix

Beatrix

Mother of the Twins

The mother Natasha and Nadia barely spoke to for years. Following a surprising DNA test revelation, she returns to their lives at NomadWagonCamp, embarking on a quiet year of helping with the goats, healing old wounds, and discovering she still has a place in the family.

Nicholas

Nicholas

Father of Natasha

Natasha's father. Left for university and years of work abroad, returning to Zalaszentanna knowing nothing of what he left behind. Upon learning one of the twins might be his, he offers immediately to claim both since the other father is no longer alive, and drives out to tell Zoltán's widow himself.

Zoltán

Zoltán

Father of Nadia

Nadia's father, Nicholas's closest childhood friend, and Beatrix's other love that same summer. Killed in a car accident on the ring road a year before the revelation, he never knew he had a fourth child, but left his family well provided for.

Benjamin

Benjamin

Beatrix's Twin Brother

Beatrix's twin brother, separated from her in childhood. Written to in March, silent until June, and then, eleven drafts later, a letter. To be met properly once four babies are safely in the world.

Zoltán's Family

The Children

Lara

Lara

Nadia's Daughter

Nadia's daughter. Born 5th July at 1:17 in the afternoon — the first of the four. Arrives furious and entirely herself, with a cry that fills the whole room.

Aurora

Aurora

Natasha's Daughter

Natasha's daughter. Born twenty-four minutes after Lara, with a wisp of fair hair that Beatrix insists is exactly her mother's. The one name that survived every round of the shortlist.

Angelina

Angelina

Natasha's 2nd Daughter

Natasha's second daughter. Born at eleven minutes to two, quietly, eyes already open. Given Beatrix as a middle name — in the middle, where it sits quietly and doesn't have to be explained to anyone.

Vincent

Vincent

Nadia's Son

Nadia's son. Born at twenty past two, last, largest, and in no hurry whatsoever. The only boy, and the only name Nadia never crossed out — except once, in April, to see how she'd feel about it. She felt terrible and wrote it back the same evening.

Supporting Cast

Martha

Martha

Animal Shelter Coordinator

The cheerful, dedicated local animal shelter coordinator. She drives the green rescue van and is responsible for delivering the camp's rabbits, chickens, goats, the four large rescue dogs, and eventually, Sassy the Dachshund.

Uncle Mihály

Uncle Mihály

Village Elder

An eccentric local village elder famous for his plum orchard. He brings a rusted wheelbarrow holding a copper distillation vat to the camp, leading the unforgettable and chaotic summer pálinka-making festival.

Eleonora

Eleonora

Sound Bath Practitioner

Nadia’s friend from the city. A former corporate PR executive who suffered burnout and became a master practitioner of acoustic sound baths. She hosts deeply restorative singing bowl and gong sessions in the newly built Healing Studio for the visiting LondonFineArt.org artists.

Alfred & Mira

Alfred & Mira

Local Farmer & Granddaughter

An elderly, weathered local farmer and his excited granddaughter. They are the first guests to utilize the great timber paddock, arriving in a rugged horsebox to bring Grace and Enigma to their new home.

Mr. Henderson

Mr. Henderson

Village Butcher

The traditional village butcher. He provides high-quality scraps and raw bones at a wholesale price to keep the massive pack of working dogs fed on a raw, natural diet through the winter.

Supporting Cast + book2

Tibor

Tibor

Village Stonemason

The village stonemason. Knows everyone in three villages and forgets very little. Builds the wood-fired oven the traditional way, insists the dome cannot be rushed, and is the one who brings word that a well-dressed stranger is asking questions in town. Carves four small wooden animals in secret over a winter and refuses to make anything of it.

Marc & Denis

Marc & Denis

Village Builders

Two young men from the village, brought along to learn oven-building and stay for the food. Marc plays the accordion badly and with tremendous enthusiasm.

Jussi

Jussi

Sauna Builder

Hungarian by birth, Finnish by training, and a purist about all of it. Builds the sauna over six weeks and refuses every suggestion involving plastic, coloured lighting, or music. Declares pouring essential oil on the stones a sin — worse than a crime. Comes to build one room, and quietly never leaves.

Farkas

Farkas

Elderly Cooper

An elderly cooper from two villages past the mill. Builds the oak cold-plunge tub by hand, shaping the iron hoops over his own forge, and warns that wood needs to remember how to hold water.

Gábor

Gábor

Camp Manager

One of two young men from the village hired to run the camp for a fortnight so the household can finally rest — and steady enough that he is later taken on permanently. Quiet, capable, and pleased with himself for managing without the owners underfoot. By the final summer he has the animals almost entirely in hand.

Zoltán (the helper)

Zoltán (the helper)

Gábor's Cousin

Gábor's cousin, and the second pair of hands for that same fortnight. No relation whatsoever to the Zoltán who fathered Nadia — a coincidence of a very common name, and one nobody in the family ever thinks to remark on.

Rebecca

Rebecca

Midwife

The midwife who moves into a spare wagon two weeks before the births and reorganises the camp around two thirty-four-week pregnancies without asking anyone's permission. Tells the sisters to keep their name lists in their bag, because everyone claims they'll decide in advance and nobody ever does.

Jozef & Thomas

Jozef & Thomas

Solar Installers

Solar installers, eleven years in business together. Win the contract on honesty rather than price — their proposal is the only one that says plainly what the system can't do. Thomas asks how many nappies a day, and means it.

Saara

Saara

Quiet Finnish Guest

A quiet Finnish guest who mentions, almost apologetically, that the one thing missing from an otherwise perfect stay is a proper sauna — and leaves behind the name of the man who can build one.

The Menagerie

Boris

Boris

The Chief Security Officer and aristocratic feline tyrant

A ginger cat who demands premium salmon paté and observes the camp's chaos from a high pine branch.

Sassy

Sassy

Chief Comfort Officer

A bossy, fearless miniature dachshund who commands the giant working dogs and claims handmade macramé baskets as her absolute throne.

Ranger

Ranger

Belgian Malinois

A fiercely loyal and highly disciplined patrol dog who glues himself to Alyosha's side during camp constructions.

Bear

Bear

Hungarian Komondor

A massive, gentle giant who prefers sleeping outside during freezing blizzards, acting as a literal protective wall for the sanctuary.

Zeus

Zeus

Hungarian Transylvanian Hound

A sleek and perceptive Hungarian canine companion adding ancestral instincts and deep-woods navigation to the pack.

Pippin

Pippin

Hungarian Puli

Distinctive, agile, and endlessly energetic, bringing traditional Hungarian herding spirit and boundless character to the camp dynamic.

Grace & Enigma

Grace & Enigma

Rescue Horses

The paddock's gentle residents. They bring a calm, rural energy to the camp, testing Alyosha's heavy timber fences and happily grazing among the pine roots.

Clementine & Barnaby

Clementine & Barnaby

Nigerian Dwarf Goats

The chaotic, cheerful barn residents. Extremely friendly, deeply vocal when they want their morning hay, and constantly bouncing with comedic energy around their custom-built enclosure.

Snowdrop

Snowdrop

White Rabbit

White rabbit. Named for being born in winter. The first animal Adam ever held, months before anyone knew who he was.

The rabbits, chickens, sheep and the rest of the camp's working animals continue much as before — multiplying, complaining about breakfast, and remaining entirely uninterested in the human drama unfolding around them.

About

Didymus Cavalry writes about a place he hopes one day to build.

For years he has carried the same picture: a clearing in a quiet forest, wagons among the pines, animals in the paddock, a long table, and people arriving tired and leaving lighter. That vision became NomadWagonCamp — and, beyond the page, a Retreat Centre he fully intends to see standing.

He believes in second chances, in forgiveness that comes late, and in the ordinary, patient work of building something good with other people. He is also developing the initiative LondonFineArt.

His passion is to make the world a better place through empathy, resilience, communication, continuous learning, strategic thinking, leadership, and a strong commitment to helping people and creating meaningful, sustainable opportunities.
